Our Story
ZENTAI means "whole" in Japanese — reflecting our commitment to developing the entire person.
Real Martial Arts. Real Leadership.
Grandmaster Allen De Peña built ZENTAI on a simple belief: kids deserve both. Every student learns real martial arts — striking, blocking, takedowns, and practical self-defense they can rely on if they ever need it. And every technique is taught through the SKILLZ child-development curriculum, so the same class that makes them capable also makes them focused, respectful, and confident enough to lead — at home, at school, and in life.
Using the internationally recognized SKILLZ methodology — a science-based, age-specific curriculum — ZENTAI was named Child Development Center of the Year out of 1,200 centers in 27 countries. Today, with five locations — four across New Jersey and our flagship non-profit location in the Dominican Republic — ZENTAI continues to build confident, disciplined, and resilient leaders one student at a time.
Meet Our Founders

Grandmaster Allen De Peña
A lifelong martial artist who invested in top-grade instructor training that applies science and psychology while using interactive movement modalities as a vehicle for holistic development.
His martial arts background includes Black Belts in Taekwondo and Shotokan Karate, with years of training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, and Krav Maga. ZENTAI teaches a modern blend of martial arts designed to give students a comprehensive, well-rounded approach.

ZENTAI's commitment extends far beyond the dojo. Through our Heart of ZENTAI initiative, we partner with organizations like Mercy for My Neighbor and lead missions to the Dominican Republic — because building leaders means building a better world.
From school outreach with Ladd III at local elementary schools to nonprofit partnerships, ZENTAI is deeply rooted in the communities we serve. We believe that true martial arts leadership means serving others.
Built to Lead: Our Core Values & Guiding Principles
How ZENTAI develops whole leaders, not just martial artists
Core Values
Gratitude
I am always grateful, no matter what
Your child will learn to recognize and appreciate the good in every situation—building resilience and a positive mindset that transforms how they face challenges.
Integrity
I do the right thing even when it's hard
Character over convenience. Your child will develop the moral compass to make tough choices and stand by their principles.
Respect
I treat others as I want to be treated
Beyond belt techniques, we instill genuine respect for peers, instructors, and themselves. Your child will become someone who lifts others up.
Responsibility
Step aside, I got this
Your child learns to own their outcomes. We teach accountability and self-reliance—the foundation of becoming a leader others can trust.
Growth
I get better every day in every way
We cultivate a black-belt mentality where improvement never stops. Your child will develop confidence knowing they're constantly evolving, in martial arts and beyond.
Guiding Principles
First
People over programs
We put people first, systems second. Your child isn't a number to us—we're family. We personalize every student's journey, celebrate their unique strengths, and adapt our approach to help them succeed.
Excellence
We never stop improving
We embrace continuous improvement. Your child will develop a growth mindset that applies to martial arts, school, and life—understanding that progress beats perfection.
Giving Back
We rise by lifting others
Your child learns that true strength comes from service. They'll grow up understanding that their martial arts training is a tool to help and lead others, building character that lasts a lifetime.
Intentional
We act with purpose in everything we do
Every class, every drill, every conversation has purpose. Your child won't just go through the motions—they'll develop focus, discipline, and an understanding of why they're working toward their goals.
Fun
If you're not having fun, you're doing it right
Martial arts should bring joy, not stress. Your child will train with instructors who genuinely love what they do, in an environment where effort and laughter go hand in hand.
